PAL Baseball 2020 Season Has Been Canceled

Meridian PAL Families,

On behalf of the Meridian PAL Sport Committees and Board of Directors we would like to thank you for your patience and support of Meridian PAL and our community as we all continue to endure the challenges of the COVID-19 situation. While the majority of the State of Idaho is in Phase 4 of Governor Little’s reopening guidelines, it has been determined by the Central District Health Department that Ada County be ordered to move back to Phase 3.  Meridian Parks & Recreation’s interpretation of this Order is that any person or organization is prohibited to organize gatherings of 50 people or more at a City of Meridian park regardless of how much space and how many fields are at each location.

After careful consideration we have made the decision to cancel the Summer Baseball Season.  We want to assure you that we have examined the guidelines, listened to other leaders, coaches, as well as parents in our program and throughout the community in coming to this decision. Even though teams in other activities may still be practicing, the Central District Health order for Ada County does not currently permit large gatherings and we don’t feel that restriction will be lifted in a timeframe that will allow Meridian PAL to provide a Summer Baseball Season.

As a reminder - In the event that the baseball season was cancelled before it began, we offered a Worry-Free Registration Experience that will ensure that you will receive back the full value of your registration.  Just as with flag football and soccer, you will be offered a credit towards registration for a future sport or a full refund.  No uniform costs, no administration fees, no equipment fees will be deducted.  You will receive a 100% credit/refund.   And while we will experience some financial losses by adhering to this philosophy, we believe that being a good partner with our community must take precedent during this difficult time.

An email will be sent to all parents next week with details on how the credit/refund process will work.

Respectfully and sincerely,

Board of Directors

MPAL Baseball Rules

Meridian PAL Baseball Rules Handbook

Coaches and players are responsible for knowing all of the rules in the handbook - no exceptions.

Age Divisions

T-Ball
Ages 3-4
This is an introduction to playing t-ball. The scheduled game time will be for introducing and coaching baseball basics like throwing, catching, and hitting the baseball off a tee while playing against another team.

Coach Pitch/T-Ball
Ages 5-6
This division introduces players to hitting a baseball pitched from the coach. If players cannot hit one of six balls thrown by the coach, they will hit from a tee.

Prep Minor/A Ball
Ages 7-8
This division is the introduction to player pitch baseball. When the player pitcher reaches the allotted amount of walks (3) or hit batters (2) for that inning, the offensive coach will pitch the remainder of the inning.

AA Ball
Ages 9-10
The AA division is a player pitch only division. See official rules for pitching guidelines.

AAA Ball
Ages 11-12
The AAA division is a player pitch only division. See official rules for pitching guidelines.

Age Cut-Off Date
The age used to determine the age group of your player is their age as of May 1st of the current playing year.

Proof of Age: Meridian PAL reserves the right to require proof of age by birth certificate. Any player, parent, or coach violating Meridian PAL rules or code of conduct is subject to immediate dismissal from the league.

Buddy Requests
During the registration process, players can request to have one player on the same team. So, if you want to be placed on the same team as another player, please write their names down as “buddies” and make sure they will play in the same age group. We will do our best to honor these requests. Players registering late are less likely to have their requests honored.

Play-Up Requests
No play ups are allowed. Play downs are not allowed either.

Location of Games
All games are played at Heritage Middle School
