MPAL Baseball Rules

Meridian PAL Baseball Rules Handbook

Coaches and players are responsible for knowing all of the rules in the handbook - no exceptions.

Inclement Weather

Meridian PAL games are seldom canceled due to weather, however games may be canceled by the League during severe storms or when determined necessary by league administration.

In the event of lightning prior to or during the game, the game will be stopped immediately and will be delayed up to 15 minutes. Should more lightning occur within that 15 minute delay, then the game will be abandoned.

In the event of rain or some other storm, we will assess the fields and determine if they are playable. If not, we will notify teams that are scheduled for that time slot that their games are canceled. If we do cancel the first round of games that doesn’t mean the whole day is canceled. We will continue to assess the fields as the day progresses. If you don’t hear from us that your game is canceled, then please plan on being there. If a team doesn’t show up to their game, they will be considered a forfeit.

In the event a game is abandoned in A, AA or AAA. If the game has had 3 full innings, the game will be considered completed and the score will stand. If the game is in the middle of an inning and has to be abandoned, the final score will revert to the score at the end of the last full inning. If the game is abandoned prior to the completion of 3 innings, every effort will be made to reschedule the game, which will need to be replayed in its entirety. PAL cannot guarantee all games will be rescheduled.

Age Divisions

Age Cut-Off Date
The age used to determine the age group of your player is their age as of May 1st of the current playing year.

T-Ball
Ages 3-4
This is an introduction to playing t-ball. The scheduled game time will be for introducing and coaching baseball basics like throwing, catching, and hitting the baseball off a tee while playing against another team.

Coach Pitch/T-Ball
Ages 5-6
This division introduces players to hitting a baseball pitched from the coach. If players cannot hit one of six balls thrown by the coach, they will hit from a tee.

Prep Minor/A Ball
Ages 7-8
This division is the introduction to player pitch baseball. When the player pitcher reaches the allotted amount of walks (3) or hit batters (2) for that inning, the offensive coach will pitch the remainder of the inning.

AA Ball
Ages 9-10
The AA division is a player pitch only division. See official rules for pitching guidelines.

Proof of Age: Meridian PAL reserves the right to require proof of age by birth certificate. Any player, parent, or coach violating Meridian PAL rules or code of conduct is subject to immediate dismissal from the league.

Buddy Requests
During the registration process, players can request to have one player on the same team. So, if you want to be placed on the same team as another player, please write their names down as “buddies” and make sure they will play in the same age group. We will do our best to honor these requests. Players registering late are less likely to have their requests honored.

Play-Up Requests
No play ups are allowed. Play downs are not allowed either.

Location of Games
All games are played at Heritage Middle School
