Select Soccer

Goal: The goal of the Select league is to create a more competitive level of play for players who have soccer experience and have shown a desire and skill level to learn the game at a higher skill and speed level.

Coaches: All Select coaches must have an E license minimum qualification before first Select season begins. Individual coaches may request placement to a Select team on a space available basis. In some cases, PAL may attempt to recruit alternatively qualified coaches for Select teams. These coaches must meet above requirements before the start of next season. All coaches must adhere to PAL’s Positive Coaching Philosophy, submit to a background check, and agree to PAL’s Coaching code of Ethics. A coach may be removed from the Select program at any time at the discretion of PAL.

Regions: Players register and choose a geographic region(s) based on Middle School attendance boundaries. PAL does not guarantee placement in preferred regions for Select teams. Since the number of available players in a region may not match the number of roster openings in that region, some players may be placed outside a preferred region.

Individual Tryouts: Players will be evaluated at open tryouts by a Select committee. Qualified players will be assigned to teams based first on regions. All players will be notified of placement on Select teams within two weeks of the tryouts. Players not placed on Select teams will also be notified and may participate in Recreational soccer if they so desire. If there are not enough players needed to fill all teams during the tryouts, teams and or players may be redistributed. This may result in players being moved to other Select teams.

Team Tryouts: Recreational teams wishing to return together as a Select team must notify the PAL League Coordinator or VP of Select during their Recreational season to arrange to have their team evaluated by a member of the Select committee. Then, each team member must still attend and qualify through the Individual Tryout as stated above.

Late Applicants: PAL’s Select committee at a make-up tryout may still evaluate players who cannot attend tryouts and wish to participate in Select soccer. If qualified, those players will be placed on Select teams by PAL. PAL based on geographic region and available roster openings will determine such placement. PAL Select committee will be the sole determinant of late placements. If roster openings do not exist, qualified players will be placed on a wait list and will be assigned to Recreational teams until openings do exist.
